This is a special episode of The Story Engine Podcast. This episode is part of the Customer Success Series. This is the story of Missy Beavers that did some work with me to transition out of a brick and mortar supplement store that was taking a bunch of her time to an all-online, very flexible, low hours, high-value work that has freed up a ton of time for her to spend with her family.
Missy Beavers is an integrative life coach with a master’s degree in nutrition who focuses on thyroid health, gut health, and the mind-body connection.
Missy shares the amazing and inspiring story of her success and the transformation it has made on her business and her life. She shares how she went from running a very time-consuming brick and mortar business to doing group coaching for four hours a week. She shares about her journey and framework that got her to where she is today.
We discuss:
- [02:57] Missy shares about her defining moment.
- [03:15] She owns a health food store in Northern California. She wanted to serve more people so she started looking for coaches to help guide her on this journey.
- [04:58] She went to a conference knowing she needed to go, but not knowing why she was there and that is where she met Kyle.
- [07:36] Prior to her defining moment she had taken for granted how delicate life is. Her parents showed up at a time she really needed them and then she had direction and peace.
- [09:38] Making money is never Missy’s goal. Her goal is always to help and offer good service to her clients.
- [10:01] Her next life-changing moment happened when her husband was doing good and in remission. That opened up space for her to go all-in with her business again.
- [11:15] She wanted to create a fun experience for her clients to learn and just have fun.
- [13:47] People who are committed to their highest self and constantly growing and improving are consistently looking for signs of times that things worked out for them.
- [16:26] Some things that Missy and Kyle worked on was using language to demonstrate her value and persuade others.
- [19:01] She went from running a very time-consuming business to doing group coaching for four hours a week.
- [20:15] Missy realized that she gets to choose what she gives, understanding that nobody can take anything from her. Then being really clear on what she is giving and having boundaries on that has been really game-changing.
- [22:58] She had been spending so much time in the literature and research that she had forgotten how to teach the basic habits of how to get there.
- [23:28] What good is information if it doesn’t translate into action?
- [25:02] Once the basic health habits are in place then we can do a deeper assessment.
- [26:07] You need to understand exactly where your audience is.
- [29:02] How do you expect to get better if you don’t even believe it is possible?
- [29:48] Your actions come from your thoughts, so she helps others to choose the thoughts that are going to lead them into positive action.
- [31:04] It doesn’t always work out perfectly on the first try. Taking the time to invest and practice is one of the most important things.
- [33:13] The group setting is very beneficial because when we see we are not alone in our struggles, the growth is exponential. It actually serves the client and teacher better.
- [35:40] She was thinking completely wrong in the past about working harder and not providing for herself and clients. Now she gets to provide a lot of value for just four hours every Friday.
- [36:01] Her ultimate goal is to be an example of the work. She spends the time she is not working, doing what she is asking her clients to do, living the thoughts she is asking them to think, and doing the actions so that she can show up and say she is doing it too.
