On today’s episode, we have Greg Eckel. This is a very exciting and special episode because I was able to interview Greg in-person in his business Nature Cures Clinic in Portland, Oregon. I met Greg a little over a year ago and we have had an amazing adventure together ever since.
Dr. Greg Eckel has been living in the Portland area since 1992. Dr. Eckel became increasingly aware of and concerned about the overuse of medications with children while teaching preschool, and this experience inspired his entry into Naturopathic and Chinese Medicine. In 2001 he co-founded Nature Cures Clinic. He is often asked what he specializes in with the quick retort, “treating people as whole dynamic beings moving through time and space.” We employ the physiology and biochemistry of the body in aiding in the healing possibilities. After 17 years in practice, he is continually amazed at the healing possibilities of the body and specializes in difficult and recalcitrant conditions. Dr. Eckel is trained in family practice and maintains a particular interest in neurology, allergies and asthma, and orthopedics.
Today we are going to be talking about how Greg made an extra one million dollars in his clinic by using digital marketing strategies, primarily an online summit. We are also going to talk about the work we did together to create stories and a keynote speech that transformed his relationships with his clients. This is an amazing case study and story and I hope it inspires and uplifts you as well.
We discuss:
- [02:23] Greg shares about his defining moment.
- [05:10] His wife Sarieah was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a condition with no known cure.
- [06:38] The event of losing his wife cracked him open as a human being and in a weird way, it reinstated his faith. He decided to take a stand for others and their brain help.
- [10:18] Doing the one of care, he realized that he can only serve so many people. So he looked at different options because he knew he couldn’t keep running at that place.
- [11:58] He knew he needed to move to digital so he started with a one-day summit.
- [13:48] He started by educating people on the summit and then followed up with coaching and support.
- [15:27] Taking his message online and globally was life-changing for Greg.
- [18:01] We have to get people out of their heads and back into their hearts.
- [19:44] Summits are a product in and of themselves and they build your authority.
- [22:14] He focuses on being authentic and himself online just as he would in-person.
- [23:32] One of the biggest objections for Greg’s community was that their neurologist told them they are getting worse and to come back in six months. This is a huge challenge.
- [24:38] It is important to talk about and overcome these objections in your story.
- [25:31] It is also important to share how you are different in your story.
- [26:26] They talk about how to get people to go from a free summit to be interested in spending $20,000 at your business. It is about really being really precise with your story.
- [27:17] Having empathy and meeting your audience where they are at is transformative.
- [29:17] Greg created the Thrive at Home program to help people during the pandemic. This program was completely virtual care and customized specifically to them.
- [30:46] The program has given Greg the opportunity to serve people from all over the United States.
- [32:14] The future looks bright for the clinic and Greg is very excited about the growth.
- [33:16] He is always asking the question of how does he serve people better and looking at areas for improvement.
